Kakuonji Temple

Hojo Yoshitoki, the second regent of the Shogun, founded Okura Yakushido, where Jyutsushinsho, one of the twelve guardians of Yakushi Nyorai, the Medicine Buddha, is worshipped. Later, Okura Yakushido was rebuilt as Kakuonji by the 9th regent, Hojo Sadatoki.

Komyoji Temple

Komyoji was founded by Hojo Tsunetoki and Nen'na Ryochu, the third founder of the Jodo sect. On the seashore in front of the temple are the remains of Wakaenoshima island, which is said to have been the first artificially built port in Japan.

Wakaenoshima Island

Wakaenoshima is an artificial island located in the eastern part of Sagami Bay. It was built in 1232 when Hojo Yasutoki was serving as the regent.

Gokurakuji Temple

Gokurakuji was founded by the Buddhist priest Ninsho at the request of Hojo Shigetoki. Following the Buddhist concept of compassion, Ninsho established the Hidenin Temple and other institutions to help the poor, especially those suffering from leprosy.
