Origins of Kakuonji Temple
According to the "Azuma Kagami", also known as "The Mirror of the East", a Japanese medieval chronicle describing the events of the Kamakura Shogunate, Hojo Yoshitoki was told in a dream on July 9, 1218, by Jutsushinsho, a messenger of Yakushi Nyorai, the Medicine Buddha, that he was to build Okura Yakushido Hall at the sacred site that later became Kakuonji.
